WiMax stands for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access. It is the Last Mile solution: meaning it is the connecting bridge between the end customer and the Internet service provider. Main advantage is its ability to provide High Bandwidth [HIGH Speed Internet Access] wirelessly; hence it is also known as Wireless WAN. WAN is Wide Area Network, the computer network that can cover entire city or state.

We have two types of WiMax 1. Fixed-WiMax and 2. Mobile WiMax.
Fixed WiMax is the better version of Wireless DSL, you can get Internet connection at home without any nasty cable crawling all over to your house. The Internet Speed is phenomenally high compared to other wireless solutions (Last Mile) at present. This has been implemented successfully in some parts of the world.

The speed is phenomenal, for an example you can stream four movies at a same time in a single system while traveling at 60Miles/hrs. Advantage includes its seamless service too. At present they can support Upload 4Mbps and Download 12Mpbs. Intel is working on a processor that can process up to 1.5 up and 4 down[at present]. WiMax can be used in your Mobile, Laptop, Camera, Car, you name it. Most of the manufacturers are including WiMax chip in their devices, so guys just buckle up and Sprint Ahead to the future.

Clearwire along with Sprint (Xohm) are commercially launching WiMax in US, starting with Baltimore from September 2008. [Now Clearwire only].

More than 20 hours had past and rescue squad consisting of Nepal Army, Police, Trekkers and Locals were frustrated and tired. Even after their continuous effort, attempts and re-attempts they were not able to rescue two and half year old girl, who had fallen in narrow gorge some 60 meters down below the ground. Then our Hero “Kamal Nepali” comes forward and volunteers himself for the rescue operation. Not knowing what lies ahead into that dark and mysterious gorge. Rescuers saw the hope as his body was small enough to crawl deep inside the gorge. But some objected pointing at his age and size, but our hero was determined and he insisted. He was the best available option left there.

After half an hour into the unknown, Kamal appears with the girl. Mission accomplished, he SAVED LIFE that day. Crowd cheered and applauded, everybody including girl’s father hugged him, and there was tears of joy everywhere.

Next day I read two liners in Newspapers, “Teen saved girl’s life”, my personal view is we should not be stingy on writing about this HEROIC act. This should have been FRONTPAGE News if I would have been an editor.

The Much awaited Touch Screen Phone: Samsung Instinct for Sprint Customers (ONLY) is almost out. The insider says the phone is to be launched this June 20th 2008.

Sprint is planing to launch this phone with the PRICE tag of $129.99 and hoping it to be the killer in the market. At present Instinct is going to be available only to the existing Sprint customers.

With AT&T launching 3G iPhone starting at $199 and T-mobile is coming up with Google’s Phone: Android aka GPhone within this month. Summer of 2008 is going to the heaven for gizmo lovers.

This June there is going to be a great fight between the Champion: Apple iPhone[June 29th 2008 launch] and the Challenger: Sprint’s Instinct[June 20th 2008 launch]. I have a reason saying Apple iPhone and Sprint’s Instinct even though Samsung is manufacturer for Instinct and At&T is a service provider for iPhone.

I believe this is going to be a handicapped match for Sprint, as iPhone is not just a phone. Steve Jobs and Apple is a strong brand value , backed by At&t’s service, they have largest subscriber base. Also the fact that iPhone was sensational hit when it was launched.

Let the battle begin…

1. Technology used: even though both uses 3G technology. Sprint’s Instinct uses EV-DO REV-A and iPhone runs on EDGE, technically EV-DO REV-A will have higher bandwidth. It means browsing in Sprint’s Instinct will be much faster than iPhone.

2. GPS: Sprint Advertisement shows its very accurate, it can be very helpful while driving as it has turn by turn audio and video driving direction. iPhone lacks the accuracy and feature, but in next model they can bridge the gap.

3. Inbuilt Memory: iPhone as 16GB memory. Instinct 16/2 Max

4. Streaming Radio and Video: Sprint has advantage because of its higher bandwidth via EV-DO Rev-A technology. Also backed by Sprint TV and Radio + 150 more radio stations.

5. Phone as Modem: Sprint do anything for $69.99 is very economical plan, you can attach Instinct into your laptop and surf the web with broadband speed.

6. Price : Speculation: Instinct -less that $200(with discount), iPhone: around $300.

7. Better Network: At&t’s “all bars anywhere” is just a marketing gimmick, the present iPhone user can share the pain. Sprint network has improved a lot.
